The Truths implied by debate itself.

There are certain principles that all those who debate do affirm for which otherwise there can be no debate. You assert by your efforts to argue that the deductive methods of logic and reason apply to the state of your existence. For since it takes some effort to debate, you cannot argue that the principles of argumentation have no effect on your life when obviously the efforts you put into debating is effecting your life. And so by your efforts to argue you admit that the state of your existence will be determined by the same principles of logic that govern the truth or falsehood of propositions. Or can you argue that you are not affected by reason while you are reasoning?

Furthermore, if there is any debate, then there is one side who asserts that a proposition is true, and there is another side which says the proposition is false. If two parties don't disagree on a matter, than there is no debate. Also, if there is no attempt to convince the other side that they are wrong, then there is no debate. So if you debate at all, then you are asserting that there is some logical reason that your opponent can follow to go from believing that your proposition is false to believing that your proposition is true. Thus, any debate at all asserts that if your proposition is true, then even the premise that it is false leads logically to the conclusion that it is true. Can you argue with someone by telling him that there is no logical reason why he should change his mind on the matter? That would stop the debate right there, and your opponent would think he was right.

And so from the two paragraphs above, those who debate must admit that their existence will be determined by the principles of logic to be either true or false. And those who debate must admit that if any proposition is true (including whether they live), then the premise that it is false must result in the conclusion that it is true. Thus, those who debate must admit that if the proposition that they will live is true, then the premise that they will die must result in the conclusion that they will live. In other words, every reasonable person must believe in the resurrection of the dead.

If you know anything that would make these points more clear, please let me know.

Thanks.
