Some may wonder why I bother to
make these predictions about the future. They may wonder what is
the purpose of prophecy. And they might ask what relevance
Biblical prophecy has to their everyday life. They wonder what
does "pie-in-the-sky" have to do with the behavior of
men right now.
But the behavior of men is influenced by their expectation of the
ultimate consequences that will occur in the future. If someone
does not believe that there is any sort of ultimate consequence
to their actions, then that person has much less reason to behave
in a civil manor than someone who honestly believes that there
are ultimate consequences that result from their deeds. So
prophecy attempts to lend credibility to the notion of ultimate
consequences so as to motivate people to behave in a civil mannor
because they know they must give an account. And so my effort
here is to show how and why such biblical prophecies can come to
pass.
Also, prophecy serves as a warning so that those who believe may
prepare themselves accordingly.
And prophecy is given so that when it comes to pass, it proves
that nothing happens in an arbitrary mannor. It shows that God is
in control.
