Yet the only reason that His death was destined to be so obvious was so that His resurrection would also be so glorious. Therefore, since this is what was meant, we should not expect that He should stay forever dead. But we should come to expect that He come back to life again. And this is what did happen. Yet, if He would have arose from the dead while still nailed to the cross, many would have said that He never really died at all. But they would have assumed that He merely came down from the cross just as they urged Him to. See Matthew 27:41-42 And if He had been buried for only a short moment before coming back to life again, then many would suspect that He was not yet really dead. Or if He were to have come back to life again after a long time had past, then many of His friends may have forgotten Him. They may have wondered if this was the same man who suffered so long ago for them. But He appeared to them on the third day so they would still be gathered there and the memory of His death would still be clear. So even though extreme measures were made, He arose from the dead anyway. And the men assigned to guard His grave could do nothing more than to faint. See Matthew 28:4 For if He had appeared to them again alive right before His enemies eyes, they would have screamed in fear and died of fright because then they would have known how wrong they were to take his life. For they were completely opposed to His life so much so that they crucified. And if God declares that it’s so right that He instead should be alive, then God declares that it is right that they instead should then die. Or would they honor one whom they’ve just killed? Or would they mock someone who is living proof of God’s Will?
